Malik Farakhan: Public Enemy's Big Brother

In the early 60's Afro-Americans experienced intense hardship in their fight for civil rights, led by figures such as Malcolm X and Muhammed Ali, both from the Nation of Islam.
Tony King, a professional football player turned model and actor in New York, was right at the heart of these events. In the 80's, he became a Muslim and then a member of the NOI, abandoning his "slave name" and becoming Malik Farrakhan. This choice led to him becoming Security Chief for the militant hip hop band, Public Enemy.
The life of Malik Farrakhan, a.k.a Tony King, is a fascinating insight into the Afro-American experience during the last fifty years, from the beginning of the NOI to the election of Obama as President of the USA.
