Grattacielo
This residential complex the the townspeople call "il Grattacielo": two 20-story towers, 90 metres high, 210 apartaments, 23 shops, 3 places of worship catering to as many creeds, 1 surrounding park. In this context live individuals of 32 different nationalities. "Il Grattacielo", constructed in Ferrara in the mid-50's, a time of economic boom and of modernism, was conceived as as a high-end residential complex. Time gradually transformed it so that by the the 1990's it had become an accessible residential resource in particular for the immigrant population beginning to flow into the city. Il Grattacielo is a symbol of the transformation of comtemporary society, in that every town and city now has places where people from a variety of background and cultures have to live together.
