Born in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Alessandra Santanera completed her classical studies between this region and Emilia Romagna. During her university years, she undertook parallel studies, first in Italy and then in Great Britain, in professional make-up techniques. In order to finish her degree and graduate cum laude in Bologna in 1986, she had to leave for two days the set of the first film she ever worked.
Of her two passions, one becomes her profession: ever since that lucky October she spent working with Ermanno Olmi, she has worked on hundreds of Operas, dozens upon dozens of documentaries and features, tv commercials and musical video clips as a make-up artist..
She has worked with many great directors including Zeffirelli, Cavani, Bellocchio, Herzog, Amelio, Ronconi, Brook and Salvatores.
After having contributed in 1985 to the birth of the first professional school for make-up artists in Bologna, she continues to be active in the organization of t make-up raining courses for the worlds of fashion and cinema.
Her other great passion, which she has been nurturing for an even longer time, is writing. Since 1975 she has written huge quanity of poetry, publishing and participating in contests. In the current millenium Alessandra has added activities of free-lance journalist and contest provider for specialized press to her repetoire of roles.
