Giuseppe Bertolucci

Giuseppe Bertolucci, son of the poet Attilio, made his debut as a director in 1971 with the short feature "I poveri muoiono prima" (The Poor Die Young). Together with his brother Bernardo he penned the screenplay for "Novecento" (1900) in 1975, the same year in which he wrote the monologue for Roberto Benigni on which the 1977 film "Berlinguer ti voglio bene" (Berlinguer: I Love You ) was based.
After the inquiry documentary "Panni sporchi" (Dirty Laundry) in 1980, he was awarded the Silver Ribbon in 1985 for best screenplay for the film  "Segreti segreti" (Secrets Secrets). He also wrote the screenplay for the 1985 feature "Non ci resta che piangere" (Nothing Left to Do But Cry), starring Roberto Benigni and Massimo Troisi.
In 1988 he made "I cammelli"(The Camels), starring Diego Abatantuono, Laura Betti and Paolo Rossi. His more recent productions include "Il dolce rumore della vita" (The Sweet Sound of Life, 1999), "L'amore probabilmente" (Probably Love, 2000) and the documentary "Pasolini Prossimo Nostro" (2006). Giuseppe Bertolucci is currently running the Cineteca di Bologna.
