Fernando Solanas

Fernando Solanas, director of both cinema and theatre, but also musician, actor and comic book author, became famous in 1969 with the film "The Hour of the Furnaces," inspired by the waves of revolution which were shaking Latin America at the time. Forced to flee after the coup d'état in Argentina in 1976, he took refuge in France where he remained until 1984. In 1985, back in South America, he directed "Tangos," which was awarded the Special Jury Prize in Venice. In 1988 his film "South" won Best Director at Cannes. In the years that followed he produced "The Journey" (1992) and "Clouds" (1998). In 2004, on the occasion of his presentation of his film "Social Genocide" at the Berlin Festival. he received a lifetime achievment award.
